The Queens Library at Kew Gardens Hills will close for expansion and renovation at the end of business on Friday. The above rendering depicts what the building is expected to look like when it reopens in 2015.

A temporary library will open in mid-March at 71-34 Main St., and will remain open for the duration of the project.

Residents also may use any Queens Library location, including nearby branches on Union Turnpike in Hillcrest; Main Street in Briarwood and Flushing; and Jewel Avenue in Pomonok.

The expanded building will have an additional 3,000 square feet, an increased number of computers for public use and will be fully handicapped accessible.

It will feature 24/7 self-check-in service, an expanded meeting room and increased areas for the adult, children and young adult sections.

It also has been designed to be energy efficient.

Welcome to the discussion.
