Newly sworn-in councilman Rory Lancman, left, gets a congratulatory shake from Sen. Chuck Schumer, while Lancman’s wife, Morgan looks on.

Lancman was sworn in Saturday at LeFrak Concert Hall at Queens College by U.S. District Judge Nicholas Garaufis.

He replaced Jim Gennaro, who was term-limited out of office. Lancman’s 24th Council District includes Briarwood, Fresh Meadows, Jamaica Estates, Kew Gardens Hills and parts of Flushing and Jamaica.

The new councilman, who is an attorney, previously served for six years as an assemblyman until 2012. He also served for 16 years on Community Board 8.
