One of three Queens Republicans in the City Council is allegedly becoming a Democrat on Monday.

The New York Times reported Thursday afternoon that Peter Koo of Flushing will make the announcement following the weekend.

Rumors sprung up last September that Koo was unhappy with the Republicans and planned to defect to the Democrats. But both he and his spokeman, James McClelland, denied the assertion. Neither could be reached for comment on Thursday.

The talk last fall was that Koo was dissatisfied and marginalized by the GOP leadership and had received little support from them.

Last summer, Koo crossed party lines and endorsed Democrat David Weprin in the 9th Congressional race against the winner, Bob Turner. He acknowledged talking to the Democrats when he endorsed Weprin, but that nothing was said about switching parties.
