Community Board 11 Chairman Jerry Iannece, a longtime civic leader, announced Wednesday he is launching an exploratory committee to run for the newly created open 25th Assembly District.

The district primarly covers Flushing to Douglaston and was mainly carved out of Assemblyman Rory Lancman’s area. Lancman is running for Congress and has said he will not seek re-election to the Assembly if he loses the congressional race.

Iannece, an attorney, previously ran for the City Council in 1997, 2001 and 2009. He headed the Bayside Hills Civic Association for several years.

“The 25th AD is a perfect fit,” Iannece said. “It takes in over 90 percent of Bayside Hills, where I have lived for over 20 years.”
