It has been shown time and time again in study after study that landmark designation brings INCREASED property values. The reason is obvious. Historic Landmark Designation protects a neighborhood, indeed, and entire community, from being overdeveloped and or from the ever present danger of out-of-character structures being built there. You will not find a historic district that is descending into neighborhood squalor, as so many others do, regardless of age. It is, unfortunately, the fate of aging neighborhoods. But not Landmarked neighborhoods.
