The Fresh Meadows Library at 193-20 Horace Harding Expressway will close at the end of the day on Saturday, Oct. 12 for renovations.

It will reopen sometime during the winter of 2014 and will feature self-service checkout and check-in, new decor, a laptop work desk and more computers.

During the interim, limited library service will be provided through a mobile library there every Monday and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The branch was built in 1958 and closed in 1997 for remodeling. Construction delays and other issues slowed the reopening, which was supposed to take less than a year. It only partially opened in 1999 and fully reopened in 2000.

In related news, the Queens Library also announced that the Bellerose Branch at 250-06 Hillside Ave. will also close at the end of the day on Oct. 25 for renovations. When it reopens next spring, it will feature new decor, self-service checkout and fully automated 24/7 self-check-in.

The mobile library will provide limited service every Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to- 5:00 p.m., beginning Oct. 31.

Welcome to the discussion.
