Queens Fire Marshal Martin McHale, 50, was killed in a car accident on Christmas Eve.
The Hollis Hills resident was traveling eastbound on 84th Avenue when he lost control of his gray Chevy Silverado and struck a tree at 85th Avenue and 218th Street. Police found McHale unconscious and unresponsive. He was sent to North Shore University Hospital, were he was pronounced dead on arrival.
In 2007, McHale won the Martin Scott Medal for cracking a 2005 arson case, which involved a scorned lover and a hitman.
His big personality reportedly made him a favorite among neighbors and even earned him an eponymous bar named in his honor in the West Village.
He leaves behind two young twin boys — and a hole in the Fire Department.
His wake will be held Friday, Dec. 28 from 2-9 p.m. and funeral on Saturday, Dec. 29 at 10 a.m. Both services will be held at American Martyrs Church, 79-43 Bell. Blvd., Bayside.
