Democratic incumbents for City Council Districts 20 and 23 have only minor party opposition in Tuesday’s elections.
Councilman Peter Koo of Flushing has no Republican opponent in the District 20 race, but will face three third-party candidates. They are Sunny Hahn on the Reform ticket, Martha Flores-Vazquez on the Independent Jobs and Education ballot, and Evergreen Chou, representing the Green Party.
All three candidates have run and lost in past elections, both on the city and state levels.
District 23’s Councilman Mark Weprin of Oakland Gardens also has no Republican opposition. Weprin will face Joe Concannon on the Reform Party ballot. Concannon is a law and order candidate, whose campaign slogan is “Support Your Local Police.” He ran unsuccessfully against state Sen. Tony Avella (D-Bayside) last year as a Republican.
The 23rd District includes Bellerose, Oakland Gardens, Floral Park, New Hyde Park, Glen Oaks and parts of Fresh Meadows, Bayside, Queens Village and Hollis.
