The first of three cleanups and history lessons was held last week at the Olde Towne of Flushing Burial Ground.
The $1,300 to pay for the program was provided personally by City Councilman Peter Koo (D-Flushing) after upkeep of the city park was questioned.
As part of the program, students from IS 237 listened to a history talk from Bayside activist Mandingo Tshaka, a member of the burial ground conservancy who has been critical of the city’s upkeep.
Koo is standing in the center, while Tshaka is sitting center left, with students and volunteers. The park is located on 46th Avenue, between 164th and 165th streets.
