Members of the Flushing Boys Club signed a petition last week during Kick Butt Day to proclaim their opposition to smoking and tobacco in general.

The Queens Smoke-Free Partnership alerted the community about what is now a known cause of youth smoking — tobacco marketing in stores. Communities that allow the sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products near schools have higher rates of youth tobacco use than communities that have tobacco-free zones.

“Smoking kills, and we’ve got to protect kids from the cause,” said Gregory Fleury, teen drector at the Boys Club of NY Abbe Clubhouse in Flushing.

Welcome to the discussion.
