The sound of American Dance and Drama Studio is the sound of Queens. Now marking 41 years of teaching, the school offers classes ranging from tap and ballet to hip-hop and musical theater. It features a harmonious blend of rap, big band, rhythm and blues, classical symphonies, rock and roll and Broadway melodies.

With locations in Fresh Meadows, Glendale and at Christ the King High School in Middle Village, the school has earned a reputation for training young talent that goes on to Broadway shows such as “The Lion King,” “Mary Poppins” and “A Chorus Line” and appears in lead roles in television, films, commercials and dance companies. Agents regularly come to the studio in search of young talent.

Just as important to the proprietors is that children bond at the studio from age 2 and up and become lifelong friends — and reminisce about the great childhood they had growing up at AD&D. Even if a student’s final goal is not to choose the arts as a profession, the training is an invaluable experience that is fun and social.

With its new space in Fresh Meadows at 188-22 Union Tpke., the school now has seven studios and a 7,000-square-foot black box theater. The studio plans to add a film school to its Drama and Vocal Department, with classes taught by editors and directors with room for different type of classes and workshops.

Students come from all over — from Queens, Long Island, the Bronx, Brooklyn and Manhattan — to attend AD&D for its two dance companies, acting company and top union teachers.

The school offers family discounts and low prices. And if that’s not enough, the school is available for children’s birthday parties with over 3,000 square feet of space.

The school’s annual Summer Camp, beginning June 30, offers programs from Monday to Friday, full-day or half-day, one to five days weekly for six weeks, and free T-shirts for registered campers. Also, summer classes are available after 5 p.m. for seven weeks.

The Summer Dance Intensive program will be available for two weeks, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and has major teachers.

Special discount packages are available for students auditioning for two or three programs, such as dance, drama and vocal.

AD&D is open year round. For additional information visit americandanceanddrama.net or call (718) 479-8522.

Welcome to the discussion.
