Meadow Park Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Flushing would like to report on a patient success story.

Phyllis Clark was born and reared in Brooklyn and came to Meadow Park after a life-changing incident. Prior to her accident she was completely independent and working as a medical biller. Clark explained one day as she reached down to pick up a small suitcase she heard the sound of the bone in her spine crack.

Clark was then taken to Elmhurst Hospital and admitted in May 2013, receiving spinal cord surgery to correct a fracture to her spine. Unfortunately, after surgery she was left paralyzed from the waist down. In June 2013, Clark was transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she received physical therapy for one month to learn how to adjust to life as a paraplegic.

In July 2013, Clark was transferred to Meadow Park. Upon arrival, all she could move from the waist down were her toes, as well as her upper extremities. Clark lost all her independence and had to depend on the staff to do everything.

Clark said that the nursing care provided was exceptional and the staff were very supportive and encouraging. Clark began to rely on support of her family and her faith to keep her encouraged that she will walk again. She worked extra hard during her physical and occupational therapy sessions and always stayed positive. Meadow Park Rehabilitation is proud to announce that Clark will be walking out of the front door.

Clark noted that her arrival at Meadow Park was when her real treatment began. She is very thankful to all the staff for their extraordinary care and treatment, which helped her get her life back.
