An argument apparently escalated to the point of murder in Cambria Heights on Saturday night, as a 36-year-old woman allegedly stabbed her boyfriend and was arrested for the crime.
Shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 7, police received a call of a person stabbed in a basement apartment on 225th Street in Cambria Heights. An NYPD unit from the 105th Precinct was dispatched to the scene and arrived at 10:39 p.m.
When police arrived, they found 56-year-old Harry Menard — who lived in the apartment with Vernice Esprit, 36 — stabbed twice in the chest. Menard was transported to Mary Immaculate Hospital in Jamaica, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Esprit, according to the New York Daily News, was in a state of total panic, and had remained at the scene after an argument during which she had apparently grabbed the knife and stabbed Menard twice. The knife used in the attack was recovered at the scene with Menard’s body.
Esprit was arrested at the scene, police said, and charged with second degree murder, first degree manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon.
The defendant was arraigned on Feb.8, and was remanded without bail, according to the Queens District Attorney’s Office. Her next court date is Feb. 24.
