Leaders of Martin Van Buren High School in Queens Village and Community Education Council 26 will meet with parents and students to discuss proposed changes that will be required in September to accommodate the new charter school that will be co-located in the building.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, May 8, in the Martin Van Buren Library.
In a letter dated Tuesday, Van Buren Principal Sam Sochet wrote that the aim is to talk about the concerns within the school community. Sochet and Hoa Tu, principal of the new Business, Technology Early College High School, are scheduled to speak, and representatives from the city’s Department of Education have been invited in order to answer questions from the public.
Leaders from within the school and CEC 26 also have been invited.
The new school is scheduled to take in 108 freshmen this coming year.
Martin Van Buren High School is located at 230-17 Hillside Ave. in Queens Village.
