A 2-year-old boy was struck by a city bus on Thursday night in Jamaica after running into the middle of the street. He has been hospitalized with serious injuries but is expected to survive, according to the NYPD.

The boy, identified in published reports as Adrahmane Bari, was hit by a Q113 bus traveling southbound on Guy R. Brewer Boulevard at 108th Avenue at around 8 p.m., police said.

The female bus driver had passengers on board when the accident occurred, Deirdre Parker, a spokeswoman for the MTA said Monday. The bus driver, whom Parker declined to identify, remained at the scene and no criminality is suspected, according to the NYPD. Parker added that Bari was taken to Cornell Medical Center, and is in the intensive care unit.

A witness at the scene said a number of children were playing on the sidewalk when Bari darted into the street and was struck by the bus because he was to small to be visible to the driver, according to the Daily News. The boy’s father, Hasan Bari, flagged down a passing motorist, and asked the driver to take them to the hospital, the report said.
