Three car crashes, one murder in under a week

A young woman traveling in a car on Dec. 30 with an allegedly drunk and unlicensed driver was killed when the driver lost control of the vehicle. It flipped over and landed in the water off Brookville Boulevard and Rockaway Boulevard in Rosedale.

Denise Finley, 32, of Beach 59th Street in Far Rockaway, was driving a 2000 Ford traveling southbound on Brookville Boulevard when she lost control of the vehicle, which overturned into the water off the boulevard at around 4:30 a.m., police said.

Passenger Dominique Jamison, 25, of Beach Channel Drive in Far Rockaway, was removed from the vehicle and transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Finley was arrested and taken into custody at the scene, according to the NYPD. She was charged with DWI and driving without a license.

On the day after Christmas, a 30-year-old woman was killed in a hit and run near 147-05 111 Ave. in Jamaica at around 6:50 p.m, according to the NYPD.

A white vehicle traveling westbound on 111th Avenue struck Maria Beria, 30, also of 111th Avenue as she was crossing the street from south to north, police said.

Police found Beria unconscious. EMS transported her to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver did not remain at the scene and no one was immediately arrested in connection with the crime. The investigation is ongoing.

A Floral Park woman was struck and killed while crossing Hillside Avenue on Dec. 26 at around 8 p.m., according to the NYPD. No one was immediately arrested in the apparent hit and run, and the investigation is ongoing.

Sheena Mathew, 38, was crossing Hillside Avenue, from north to south, when she was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling eastbound which fled the scene, police said.

Officers discovered Mathew of Little Neck Parkway unconscious and unresponsive with head trauma. EMS transported her to North Shore University Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Corey Rankine, 31, of Hook Creek Boulevard in Rosedale, was found shot dead at 10:38 p.m. on Saturday. He had a bullet wound to the torso, police said. No one was immediately arrested in connection with the crime.
