A man was gunned down early Tuesday morning inside a Jamaica supermarket while reportedly trying to break in and rob the store.

Police responded to a call of man shot in Met Food at 173-09 Jamaica Ave. at around 2:15 a.m. When they arrived, they discovered Mamadou Koureichi, 27, of 148th Street in Jamaica, unconscious and unresponsive, with a gunshot wound to the torso. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene, police said.

Angelis Candido, 54, a maintenance man working the overnight shift at the store, allegedly killed Koureichi with a 12-gauge shotgun after he caught him and another man cutting a hole in the roof in an attempt to get in and rob the place, according to the Daily News.

Candido will not be charged with a crime, the report said. Another burglar fled the scene and has not been apprehended yet. Koureichi’s body was found in the manager’s office, but the hole was carved in the roof above the cash register, according to the report.

The killing is the second homicide in the 103rd Precinct this year, according to the latest Compstat report, which lists crimes through March 4. None had been committed in the precinct during the same time period last year.
