Correction. The environmental center is not a part of the Springfield Blue Belt project. The Idlewild Park Preserve Environmental Science Learning Center, a major initiative of the Eastern Queens Alliance which is a federation of civic associations in Southeast Queens, will be located in Idlewild Park, an ecological resource in Southeast Queens. It is made possible by Borough President Helen Marshall through a $5 Million dollar allocation in the 2009 Capital Budget to build the center in response to requests made by the Alliance. The center is currently under design in the Queens Capital Division of NYCDPR in consultation with the Eastern Queens Alliance. The center will provide environmental education to youth and adults through out the community and the borough. It will be run by the Alliance. Currently, the precursor of the center is operating out of an office trailer in Idlewild Park Preserve. For further information, contact 347 824-2301.
