Sen. Malcolm Smith supply giveaway to Sandy victims Sat. in Far Rock

State Sen. Malcolm Smith will team up with the United Federation of Teachers, Hot 97, Hip Hop Has Heart Foundation, Lisa Evers and Street Soldiers to set up a collection-distribution site Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Ocean Bay Community Center (Formerly Arverne-Edgemere Houses) at  57-10 Beach Channel Drive in Far Rockaway to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Thousands of people on the peninsula are still without electricity and water.

The following items are needed: equipment (flashlights, batteries, battery-powered radios, battery-powered clock radios, and new blankets), new cold weather clothing (sweatshirts, hoodies, fleece jackets, coats, gloves, socks, boots), items for children (books, notebooks, school supplies, book bags, backpacks, games and toys), basic supplies (paper towels, plastic garbage bags, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, moisturizing lotion, feminine products, household cleaning products, rubber cleaning gloves, baby diapers and baby wipes,) Non-perishable food (breakfast bars, protein bars, crackers, chips, cookies, canned spaghetti, canned tuna, canned meats, canned vegetables and juice boxes).
