Area lawmakers and community leaders turned out in numbers Thursday to bid farewell to City Councilman Tom White Jr. (D-South Ozone Park), who died on Aug. 27 from cancer, at the age of 71.

The funeral was held at Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral in Jamaica. White was buried at Maple Grove Cemetery in Kew Gardens.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were Mayor Mike Bloomberg; Queens District Attorney Richard Brown; former Congressman, the Rev. Floyd Flake; and civil rights activist, the Rev. Al Sharpton.

A special non-partisan election will be held on Nov. 2, the date of the regularly scheduled general election, to fill White’s seat.
