City Councilman Donovan Richard Jr. (D-Laurelton) is inviting the public to a community meeting at 6 p.m. on May 21 to discuss the problem of speeding that is occurring in neighborhoods in Southeast Queens.
The meeting will take place at IS 231, located at 145-00 Springfield Blvd. in Springfield Gardens.
Representatives from the New York City Police Department’s 105th Precinct as well as the New York City Department of Transportation have been invited to answer residents’ questions and to address any concerns raised by residents, business owners and school officials.
Traffic safety has been a major issue in recent months, with numerous accidents — some fatal — in areas where community boards, civic groups and residents have requested traffic-calming measures such as lights, stop signs and slow zones, only to be denied by the city.
The meeting is scheduled to run until 8 p.m. Anyone wishing further information is asked to call Richards’ Laurelton office at (718) 527-4356.
