Police officers Richard Phipps, left, and Chris Serrao, right, shared Cop of the Month honors for the month of September in the NYPD’s 105th Precinct.

The officers were honored on Oct. 29 in a ceremony at the Queens Village station house.

Deputy Inspector Michael Coyle, commanding officer of the precinct, said Phipps and Serrao were on routine patrol on Sept. 4 when they responded to a call about a possible burglary on 208th Street.

Coyle said the officers approached a man acting suspiciously and apprehended him. Upon further investigation the officers also allegedly recovered a .38-caliber revolver and ammunition from the man’s vehicle.

“It was a great collar,” Coyle said of the arrest, saying that the precinct’s burglaries “have dropped off the charts” since the suspect was arrested.

The officers were joined in the ceremony by Rose Funderburk, second from left, president of the 105th Community Council.
