A Little League coach was sentenced this week to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty in August to charges of molesting boys, according to the Queens District Attorney.

Once named “Rochdale Village Little League Coach of the Year,” David Hartshorn, 54, has admitted to sexually abusing three boys at his residence between July 2009 and August 2010 and filming two additional teenage boys engaging in sexual acts with one another, the DA’s office said.

“A coach can have a lasting impact on a child’s life,” Queens DA Richard Brown said in a prepared statement. “In this case, unfortunately, it was not in a good way. The defendant has admitted to being a sexual predator who took advantage of his position as a little league coach to get close to young boys before sexually abusing them.”

The initial charges indicated that Hartshorn showed pornographic films to youths during sleepovers in his home from 2009 to 2011. One of the boys told his mother, who reported it to police.

The defendant had been arrested in 1989 for endangering the welfare of a child, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor and served community service.
