Man shot dead in Jamaica

A Jamaica resident was fatally shot at Remington Street and Shore Avenue in Jamaica on July 24.

Police responded to a 911 call at approximately 5:28 a.m. and found Marcus Wharwood, 28, with gunshot wounds to the head and torso.

EMS responded and transported him to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 7:45 a.m.

Wharwood resided at 143-04 Shore Ave.

Police are still investigating and have not made any arrests.

There have been four other murders in the 103rd Precinct so far this year, one of which was in the last month, according to police crime statistics. At this point in 2012, there were 10 murders.

There were also 16 other shooting victims and 15 shooting incidents in the precinct so far this year, down from 30 victims and 27 incidents last year, a roughly 50 percent decline.

The precinct has also had 17 rapes, 242 robberies, 204 felony assaults, 163 burglaries, 232 grand larcenies and 92 car thefts so far in 2013.
