Rap star and actor LL Cool J greets state Sen. Malcolm Smith, top, last Saturday at the ninth annual Jump & Ball Tournament youth basketball tournament, at Daniel O’Connell park in Hollis.

The Southeast Queens native is one of the co-founders and sponsors of the month-long weekend tournament, which began on Aug. 3 and runs through Sept. 1.

“Jump & Ball is such an important event for children and families,” the singer said in a statement released by Smith’s office. “It’s a place where they can have summer fun while growing stronger as a community. I couldn’t be happier to support this great event in my hometown.”

Center, a young future hoop star drives the lane for two points. Above, teams gather for a group photo, as well as fun, exercise and other activities.
