Heavy rain in the predawn hours of Saturday morning may have washed out the Hollis-Bellaire-Queens Village-Bellerose Athletic Association’s opening day slate of games, but that didn’t stop the hundreds of players from proudly marching in the league’s annual opening day parade.

Gloves in hand and eye black painted on cheeks, players jaunted alongside their parents down Hillside Avenue in Queens Village, making their way to the league’s ballfields at the Padavan-Preller Complex in Bellerose.

Warm temperatures and a bright, blue sky greeted the marching families as they made the one-mile trek from Hillside Avenue and 217th Street to the fields, and dozens of homeowners and pedestrians stopped to watch the procession go by.

Luckily, the excited players only had to wait one more day to hit the field.

Welcome to the discussion.
