Beginning this weekend and continuing over five more weekends in March and April, westbound train service at the Queens Village and Hollis stations on the Long Island Rail Road’s Hempstead Branch will be replaced by bus service because of planned track and bridge maintenance in the area.
The work is scheduled to take place on the weekends of March 8 and 9; 15 and 16; 22 and 23; 29 and 30; April 12 and 13; and 26 and 27.
Throughout the project, shuttle buses will replace westbound trains at Queens Village and Hollis from late Friday night until early Monday morning.
Full regular train service will be restored before the start of Monday’s morning rush hour.
Customers beginning their westbound train trip at Queens Village or Hollis will instead board buses leaving up to 14 minutes later than regular train departure times.
The buses will take them directly to the LIRR’s Jamaica hub, where they can catch trains that will take them west.
Customers are being asked to allow up to 22 minutes of additional time when making any weekend travel plans.
Hempstead Branch customers traveling west to Queens Village or Hollis will disembark at Bellerose and board a bus for direct service to either Queens Village or Hollis.
These customers should allow for as much as 20 minutes of additional travel time.
Eastbound trains will continue to operate during the construction period, but customers should expect delays of up four to six minutes as train speeds are expected to be adjusted through the work zone to ensure the safety of both railroad employees and passengers.
