Twelve people were injured in an early-morning fire that started in the basement of a multi-family brick dwelling in Jamaica on Jan. 23.

The Fire Department received a call at 5:10 a.m. regarding a blaze in a three-story building at 169-11 89 Ave., near 169th Street. It took 60 firefighters to bring the fire under control at 6:02 a.m.

Of the 12 injured, five were taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, four to New York Hospital Queens and two to Queens Medical Center. One refused treatment, FDNY officials said.

Seven of the injured from five households are being housed by the American Red Cross, spokesman Michael De Vulpillieres said. The number is expected to go up as more are released from the hospitals.

The cause of fire is under investigation.
