Volunteers with Habitat for Humanity braved the cold last Saturday to refurbish an abandoned house at 178-25 93 Ave. in Jamaica.

Held less than a week before Valentine’s Day, the event was promoted as an opportunity for singles looking for others with an interest in community work to meet.

At top, Francine Pierre, a native of Elmhurst, removes a window frame. Pierre has begun the process of obtaining a home in Queens through Habitat in the near future.

Above, a volunteer uses a chop saw to prepare a pile of two-by-fours that will replace or reinforce some of the framework upstairs.

Welcome to the discussion.
