Fatal fire in Queens Village

One person was killed on Sunday afternoon when a fire spread through a home at 94-67 Springfield Blvd. in Queens Village.

The FDNY said units were summoned to the two-story building at 2:04 p.m. and were on scene in three minutes. The fire began in the basement, and was brought under control at 2:56 p.m.

One civilian sustained minor injuries. The deceased, whose identity was not released, was declared dead at an area hospital.

One FDNY firefighter also sustained what were termed to be minor injuries.

The Fire Marshal’s Office has determined the cause to be electrical.
