Blocks United, a new subcommittee of Community Board 12, is looking for block associations and civic groups that are interested in joining forces in an effort to strengthen themselves and the communities within CB 12’s borders, including Jamaica and surrounding areas.

The Rev. Edward McKay, first vice chairman of CB 12, is the chairman of the subcommittee.

Speaking on April 17 at a meeting of the board, he said his team is willing to help new neighborhood groups organize, and to help reorganize groups that have stopped functioning or gone dormant due to lack of participation.

“There is strength in numbers,” McKay said. “It’s all about unity in the community.”

The subcommittee is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month at the Roy Wilkins Family Center, located at 177-01 Baisley Blvd., making the next meeting on April 24.

Those interested are welcome to contact McKay at (917) 757-5919 or (718) 723-3763.

Messages also can be left at the CB 12 office by calling (718) 658-3308.

Welcome to the discussion.
