York College in Jamaica hosted its eighth annual Black Male Initiative on Oct. 4, with more than 1,000 students, faculty and guests attending the day-long conference focusing on the history of race and racism in criminal justice, education, housing, employment and other areas.

At top, civil rights lawyer Juan Cartegena, president of Latino Justice/PRLDFF, was one of the keynote speakers.

Above, Professor Paul Butler, center, of the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC meets with several of the conference’s attendees.

The initiative is a CUNY-wide program funded by the City Council.
