Residents of the 34th City Council District took a stand against former Assemblyman Vito Lopez’s campaign to be their next councilman.
Protestors from Ridgewood and Bushwick, Brooklyn marched in Rheingold Gardens, above, on Sept. 4. The community members cited Lopez’ controversial past, including allegedly sexually harassing a female employee.
“While empowered with the responsibility of representing the good people of the 53rd state Assembly District, and of supporting the interests of the Democratic party in Kings County, the Dishonorable Vito Lopez has breached the public’s trust...,” a statement from the group read.
But after the primary election on Tuesday declaring Antonio Reynoso, chief of staff for Councilwoman Diana Reyna (D-Queens, Brooklyn), the winner, residents of the 34th District can rest easy knowing that Lopez will not be their representative in the City Council.
