Maspeth Federal Savings began hosting a peek into the neighborhood’s past last week.

The bank’s main branch is displaying a series of photos, titled “A Walk Down Flushing Avenue, 1929,” that offer a glimpse into the activities of area residents nearly 80 years ago.

Assembled by the Newtown Historical Society, the images — frames of Maspeth and Ridgewood on Nov. 1, 1929 — were taken just days after the Black Tuesday stock market crash and the beginning of the Great Depression.

The bank is located at 58-15 69th St. in Maspeth.

Welcome to the discussion.
