Police are searching for two suspects who allegedly attempted to rob and rape an 18-year-old woman in Ridgewood early Wednesday morning.

According to authorities, the victim was walking near the intersection of Putnam and Seneca avenues shortly before 3 a.m. when two Hispanic males in their early 30s approached her from behind.

Police said one suspect punched the victim in the head while the second man choked her and covered her mouth with his hand before unsuccessfully attempting to steal her purse.

When the first suspect began to sexually assault her, police said a passerby approached the scene, causing the two men to flee.

The suspects both stand about 5-feet-5 inches tall, police said.

The first suspect was last seen wearing a striped shirt, white hat, camouflaged shorts and a backpack.

The second suspect was last seen wearing a dark colored shirt with "Aero 1999" on the left sleeve and a backpack.

Anyone with information about the alleged attack is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-8477. Tips can also be submitted online at nypdcrimestoppers.com.
