The TRI-M girls Catholic Youth Organization swim team came in second place in the Brooklyn-Queens Diocesan Championship meet on March 23 after 10 consecutive years as champions.

TRI-M, also known as the Mercy Martyrs Mermaids, represents Our Lady of Mercy and Our Lady of Queen of Martyrs parishes in Forest Hills.

The team, led by head coach Mary Leong, entered the championship meet held at the Nassau County Aquatic Center after a dual meet record of four wins and one loss.

TRI-M took home the silver medal, with a score of 360, just 15 points behind the winner of the meet, St. Sebastian’s swim team.

The swim team also fared well at the CYO Olympics on March 16 where they won 14 gold, 12 silver and seven bronze medals.

Leong is assisted by coaches Alex Leong, Melissa Santos and Caitlin Winkler along with the many volunteer parents who also support the team.
