Some seats still are available in a van that will take residents to a public hearing in Suffolk County on Thursday morning that could have an impact on residents living near the Fresh Pond rail yards.

The Suffolk County Legislature will meet at 9:30 a.m. to discuss the sale of land that could add more than 200 acres to the Brookhaven Rail Terminal. Residents and civic leaders in Middle Village, Glendale and Maspeth are concerned that expansion of the facility could lead to far more trash coming through and sitting at the Fresh Pond facility to await transfer out of state.

The van, hired by State Sen. Joe Addabbo Jr.’s office, will leave from 66-85 73rd Pl. at 7:45 a.m. sharp. Those who have reservations are asked to be there at 7:30 a.m..

Those wishing to get one of the remaining seats are asked to call Alex Maureau at Addabbo’s office at (718) 497-1630.
