Players and coaches for the boys basketball team at Christ the King High School in Middle Village celebrate after winning the Catholic High School Athletic Association’s Class AA intersectional championship game with a 78-63 win over Bishop Loughlin.
The game was played at Fordham University’s Rose Hill campus in the Bronx. The Royals, 25-3, will head up to Albany for the state semifinals on March 22 according to the school’s website.
Senior Center Jon Severe scored 19 points on Sunday and was named the tournament’s most valuable player
Head Coach Joe Arbitello said he did not think the final score was indicative of how close the contest was.
“We only really started to pull away in the third quarter,” Arbitello said. “I didn’t expect to win by that many at all.”
He credited his team’s conditioning and the contributions from his bench as keys.
