We Love Ridgewood Theater, the campaign to revitalize the community landmark, the Ridgewood Theatre, has spearheaded a petition to give to the potential buyer.
Several weeks ago, it was announced that Cpex, the real estate company selling the venue, may have struck a deal with an unknown buyer. Since then, We Love Ridgewood Theater has met with Community Board 5, theater and arts groups and other members of the community to rally support for turning the old movie house into an entertainment facility for the arts and community programming.
While the facade of the building has been landmarked and must remain untouched, the interior may be changed to whatever the new owner sees fit.
Rumors say the prospective buyer is looking to redesign the building for residential use.
If you are interested in signing the petition asking the new owner to include arts, entertainment and community programming in the redevelopment of the theater, visit facebook.com/weheartrt.
