The 104 Precinct Community Council will be hosting an event in Mafera Park in honor of National Night Out.

On Aug. 6, the community is invited to join officers of the 104 Precinct for rides, community vendors and information, health screenings, public safety information and free refreshments as a way of introducing residents to their local cops.

Dubbed America’s Night Out Against Crime, the evening is celebrated on the first Tuesday of August throughout the country, aiming to reduce neighborhood crimes by building relationships between police officers and the communities they police.

National Night Out began in 1984 and more than 2.5 million Americans took part across 200 communities in 23 states. The event now involves more than 37 million people and 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will conclude at 8:30 p.m. in Joseph Mafera Park at 65 Place and Catalpa Boulevard in Glendale.

Welcome to the discussion.
