Young Joo Byun who has been missing since last week was found dead in the trunk of her dark blue Honda Civic in Elmhurst on Monday afternoon.

According to police, the 42-year-old Flushing resident was last seen leaving work near the corner of 55th Avenue and 46th Street at about 4:30 a.m. last Friday.

However, at approximately 3:15 p.m. on Monday, officers identified a woman found covered with trash bags and stuck in the trunk of her car. Police said the car was parked near the corner of 61st Street and 47th Avenue.

The medical examiner has ruled the death as a homicide.

Byun, who has a husband and three children, was a baker at a food processing plant in an industrial area in Maspeth.

According to police, they do not have anyone in custody. The victim’s husband was interrogated for several hours by detectives at the 108th Precinct and was released without charges.

Reportedly, Byun occasionally loaned and borrowed money from acquaintances but it is not clear if her death is money related as the victim’s wallet was found intact.
