“Maspeth is America,” the mural famously declares, and the community fulfilled its reputation as one of the most patriotic around with Sunday’s Memorial Day parade and ceremony.

The grand marshals were area business and community service leaders Joseph B. Papavero and MaryAnna Zero, while veterans Donald Steinmaker and Joseph Romano were honored at the ceremony, and volunteer Mary Ann Todzia was given the Citizen Award.

The parade was held, as always, by the United Veterans & Fraternal Organizations of Maspeth and sponsored by Maspeth Federal Savings bank.
