Retired U.S. Army Capt. Laura Zimmermann and area realtor Jim O’Kane will serve as grand marshals of the 2012 Maspeth Memorial Day Parade, sponsored by United Veterans and Fraternal Organizations of Maspeth, on May 27.

Zimmermann, a Maspeth native, is a graduate of Christ the King High School and Hunter College/Bellevue School of Nursing. She served in the army from 1976 to 2000.

O’Kane, who moved to Maspeth from Brooklyn at age 8, attended Grover Cleveland High School and Suffolk Community College.

He worked for the city Parks and Recreation Department for 31 years before opening O’Kane Realty on Grand Avenue.

His civic involvement includes membership on the Maspeth Town Hall board, where he serves as treasurer, and in the Loyal Order of Moose International, the Maspeth Kiwanis Club and the Maspeth Chamber of Commerce.

Welcome to the discussion.
