Maspeth Federal Savings this week announced that Vietnam veteran Conrad Steers will be the featured speaker at a ceremony following the Maspeth Memorial Day Parade on May 29. The special post-parade event will take place at 2 p.m. at Maspeth Veterans Square, located at 69th Street and Grand Avenue.

Steers, commander of the New York Military Order of the Purple Heart, will speak about the theme of the parade: “Maspeth Honors the Purple Heart Medal.” Fellow Purple Heart recipients Robert Reilly and Arigo Fruner will be honored during the ceremony.

Steers, known for pursuing the enemy alone into underground tunnels, was severely wounded by sniper fire on June 19, 1970.
