Before a homeless shelter potentially comes to Glendale, those in charge of putting forth and reviewing the plan are coming to speak to the community’s concerns.
A public hearing between the Department of Homeless Services, Samaritan Village, the sponsors of the facility, and Community Board 5 to discuss the proposed 125-family shelter at 78-16 Cooper Ave. in Glendale has been scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on May 22 in the Christ the King High School auditorium.

The proposed shelter has been a lightning rod over the last few months, as multiple elected officials as well as CB 5 have penned letters to DHS and the Mayor’s Office in opposition to the plan.
Samaritan Village also found itself in hot water this year when a state Comptroller’s audit discovered the misappropriation of nearly $1 million in state funds.
