A highway worker from Long Island is dead and a Jamaica Hills man under arrest in what the NYPD is calling an alleged drunken driving incident on the Grand Central Parkway on Tuesday morning.
Police at the 112th Precinct said Frank Avino, 63, of Ronkonkoma, LI, was working in the westbound left lane near Jewel Avenue at approximately 11 a.m. when he was struck by an Audi being driven by Munshi Abdullah, 26, of Jamaica Hills.
Avino was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.
Police said Abdullah has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest.
The incident remains under investigation by the NYPD’s Highway Patrol Accident Investigation Squad.
