An Elmhurst woman has been charged with killing her 11-month-old son, police announced Tuesday.
Nicole Kelly, 22, of 52nd Avenue, was charged with murder in the second degree following an investigation into the death Sunday of her son Kiam Felix Jr. Police did not specify how the baby was killed but said the medical examiner will determine that.
Officers were called to the apartment where Kelly and Kiam lived a few minutes after 4 p.m. Sunday because the baby was not breathing. The NYPD did not say who made the call. When the police arrived, they were told the baby already had been taken to Elmhurst Hospital. The officers then went to the hospital, where Kiam was pronounced dead on arrival.
Kiam had his own Facebook page, where the most recent post, made Monday at 11 p.m., was from his grandfather Sonny Southerland. It reads, "Missing you Jr."
On Southerland's own page, he says, On this day my Grandson "Kiam J. Felix, Jr., passed away....... He was the happiest baby I ever saw. He was soon to be 1 year old. It took all the strength I had to keep it together for my son so he can be strong. The police and the medical examiner Are still investigating as to what caused his passing. With all the love of my heart may he rest in peace."
Both posts predate Kelly's arrest.
The defendant is a 2012 graduate of August Martin High School, according to her own Facebook page, and a former home health aide. A photo of Kiam on her page has the words "RIP Tinkabutt" superimposed over it.
A post on the page from Venus Southerland reads, "How could you Murder your own son you will get everything Mark my word that's coming to you, your going to burn you baby killer no one likes baby killers you was never meant to be a mother I hate you, you evil bitch words just don't explain how I feel about you right now."
A post by Kelly, made yesterday, says, "Missing my baby boy so much wish there was some way I could bring him back to life I feel horrible knowing he passed away Am his Mother I was supposed to protect him I know his spirit will always be around me I would never forget my 1st Born he will forever remain in my heart & his family hearts."
According to the Daily News, Kelly told police she suffocated Kiam with a pillow because she could no longer handle him, but that could not be confirmed.
Kelly's birthday was yesterday, according to several posts on her Facebook page, including one in which she wished herself a happy birthday by writing, "Happy Bdaii O2 Me."
Another post, made under the victim's name says, "Happy Bdayy Mommy."
