Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley credited stop and frisk with contributing greatly to the city’s drop in crime in 2012.

The term stop and frisk and NYPD have been misconstrued by liberal extremist and the god awful Al sharpton and others like him. The supreme court ruled that it is not unreasonable under the 4th amendment. Whether you agree or not with the practice is a matter of opinion but in no way a violation of the constitution or that we are headed into a police state. The fact that a disproportionate amount of " street crime" is committed by blacks and Latinos is not a confirmation that it is racial profiling or breaching civil rights. Growing up latino in very rough neighborhoods of bushwick Brooklyn and the lower east side of manhattan I can attest to the fact that Latinos and blacks were committing most if not all of the "street crime" I personally observed. I know my father was robbed at gun point twice once by a group of black man and then a group of Hispanic males. Now you may have noticed that I keep putting street crime in quotations and that is because a stop and frisk only applies to street crimes/encounters as prescribe by the supreme court. I'am not saying that all street crime is committed by blacks and Latinos but in comparison to females and whites in general than yes they do commit most of the street crime. Otherwise every politician and wall st executive could potentially get stop and frisked for their crimes but it doesn't work like that. I understand that your personal experiences and bias may not allow you to share my views but you should consider that there is always two sides to every story if not three.
“Stop and Frisk” is racial profiling plain and simple. This is illegal behavior on the part of law enforcement and is a breach of civil rights for anyone stopped, regardless of race. The actions and abuse by the NYPD are filling the definition of a “Police State.” You can read much more about cops running amuck and how they’ve violated civil liberties across the country at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2012/08/the-privatized-police-state.html
