The ex-convict who escaped from the Creedmoor Psychiatric Center on Tuesday was apprehended late Wednesday night at a bus station in Memphis, Tenn.
The NYPD said Raymond Morillo was found inside a Greyhound bus terminal at about 10:35 p.m. and will be held until extradition.
Morillo, who was confined to Creedmoor after completing a prison sentence for manslaughter, touched off a massive manhunt when he allegedly sneaked out of the Bellerose mental hospital by exchanging clothing with someone who had come to visit him.
Police at the 105th Precinct also have interrogated two people suspected of helping him escape.
Numerous residents have blasted officials at Creedmoor and the state Office of Mental Health for not getting information on the escape to the public in a timely manner.
