Chabad of Rego Park celebrated the start of Chanukah on Tuesday
with the lighting of a 16-foot tall menorah on the triangle at the
intersection of Queens Boulevard and 67th Road.
The ceremony commemorates a miracle more than 2,000 years ago
when the Jews, after years of oppression, went to rededicate the
temple in Jerusalem. They found only enough oil in the temple to
last for one night. It lasted for eight.
The congregation will light a new light every night through Dec.
27.
